The Grizzlies’ rookies earn a B+

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Friday 20 April 2007 at 10:53 am

The Grizzlies had a really good crop of rookies this season and they all got to play some because of all the injuries the Grizz suffered this season. G/F Rudy Gay played in 78 games and he averaged 27.0 minutes, 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Gay is a future star for the Grizzlies. G/F Tarance Kinsey played in 48 games this season and he averaged 20.1 minutes, 7.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He really played well down the stretch for the Grizzlies when he filled in for the injured Mike Miller. Kinsey has a bright future for the Grizzlies. F Alexander Johnson played in 59 games and he averaged 12.8 minutes, 4.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He looks like he’ll be a solid reserve as he’s a pretty good rebounder. PG Kyle Lowry only played in 10 games (due to a broken wrist) and he averaged 17.5 minutes, 5.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Lowry also looks like a keeper for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies finished the season dead last in the Southwest Division with a 22-60 record, 45 games behind the Dallas Mavericks. The Grizzlies were 14-27 at home and a very awful 8-33 on the road. They were 14-38 against the Western Conference and only 2-14 against Division foes. The Grizzlies averaged 101.6 points per game and allowed 106.7 per game. They did win their last three games of the season and 4 of their last 10.

The Memphis Grizzlies are getting good work out of a couple of their rookies

The last two weeks the Grizzlies decided to give a couple of their rookies more playing time and the players have responded. Tarance Kinsey didn’t get much playing time until the last couple of weeks and he has really played well. In his last 7 games, Kinsey has averaged 19.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.9 steals per game. Kinsey looks like he’s a keeper for the future of the Grizzlies. Rudy Gay has also seen his playing time go up and he’s also showing that he’s a keeper. In his last 6 games, Gay has averaged 15.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocks per game. He should be a starter without a doubt for the Grizzlies next season.

Hakim Warrick taking advantage of increased playing time for the Memphis Grizzlies

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Tuesday 10 April 2007 at 1:20 pm

The Grizzlies have been giving Hakim Warrick a lot of playing time the last two weeks and he’s playing very well. Warrick has been very good in his last 7 games as he has averaged 17.0 points, 8.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. He also has made 57.1% of his shots from the floor. Warrick has big-time skills and he really has some hops so the Grizzlies need to get him some more playing time starting next season.

The Memphis Grizzlies glad this season is almost over

The Memphis Grizzlies are having a horrible season as they are 19-59 on the season. If the Grizzlies get the first or second pick in the NBA Draft in June, they will not be a bad team long. Pau Gasol and Mike Miller both missed time due to injuries and that crippled their team this season. Still, the Grizzlies did a good job of drafting last season as they brought in Rudy Gay, Kyle Lowry, Tarance Kinsey and Alexander Johnson who will all be a big part of the future for the Grizzlies.

The Memphis Grizzlies lose Damon Stoudamire and Mike Miller for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injuries by alleyoop on Monday 2 April 2007 at 4:21 pm

It’s very possible that both of these guys will miss the remainder of the season. Stoudamire has a knee injury and is doubtful to return this season. He played in 62 games this season and he averaged 24.2 minutes, 7.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Stoudamire did shoot the 3-ball well as he hit 39.1% of them this season. Chucky Atkins will just play more minutes to make up for Stoudamire’s absence. Mike Miller has patella tendinitis in both knees and is out indefinately. The Grizzlies should just let him rest the remainder of the season so that he doesn’t wind up hurting himself any worse. Rookie Tarance Kinsey has really stepped up while Miller has been out which bodes well for the future. But, Miller’s shooting has been missed as he has nailed 40.6% of his three pointers this season.
