The Memphis Grizzlies sign Casey Jacobsen

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 24 July 2007 at 12:16 pm

The Grizzlies have signed Casey Jacobsen to a 1-year contract. He hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2004-05 season so he could be a little bit rusty. In 234 career NBA games Jacobsen has averaged 20.4 minutes, 5.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He has shot 39.9% from the floor, 37% from the three point line and 77% from the free throw line. Don’t expect miracles out of Jacobsen but he could be a valuable long range shooter off of the bench.

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed forward Andre Brown

The Grizzlies have signed power forward Andre Brown who played his rookie season in Seattle last year. He didn’t get much of a chance to show what he could do but that won’t be a problem in Memphis. Brown played in 38 games (0 starts) as a rookie last season and he averaged 7.1 minutes, 2.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. He shot 56.8% from the floor and 60% from the free throw line. Most of Brown’s shots have some from close range which explains his good shooting % and weak free throw %.

The Memphis Grizzlies waive Alexander Johnson

The Grizzlies have waived power forward Alexander Johnson after his rookie season. It came as a little bit of a surprise as Johnson played pretty decent for the Grizzlies. Johnson played in 59 games (19 starts) for the Grizzlies and he averaged 12.8 minutes, 4.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.3 assists. Johnson shot 53.8% from the floor and 66.1% from the free throw line as a rookie. Johnson will have no problem finding a new job for next season as decent big men are hard to find.

The Memphis Grizzlies sign Darko Milicic to a three year contract

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 13 July 2007 at 4:32 pm

The Grizzlies have filled a need as they wanted to bring in a big body to help Pau Gasol inside. It cost the Grizzlies $21 million bucks over the next three seasons to get Milicic to sign the dotted line. Milicic is 7’0″, 275 pounds so he will likely give the Grizzlies the presence in the paint that they are looking for. Milicic played in 80 games (16 starts) last season for the Magic and he averaged 23.9 minutes, 8.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.8 blocks per game. Milicic shot only 44.4% from the floor and 61% from the free throw line. The Grizzlies are hoping he can improve his shooting this season.

Milicic never got much of a chance to show what he could do in Detroit but he played pretty well the last two seasons in Orlando. Milicic has played in 206 games (19 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 15.0 minutes, 5.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game. Look for him to improve his numbers across the board with the minutes he will get from the Grizzlies.
