The Memphis Grizzlies have released Jerry Stackhouse

By releasing Stackhouse the Grizzlies will have more money to make a run at a player like Allen Iverson. In this sense the Grizzlies were smart to get involved in the big trade as it opened up some room under the salary cap for this season and beyond. It will be interesting to see if Stackhouse calls it quits or tries to keep playing.

The Memphis Grizzlies get involved in four team trade

The Memphis Grizzlies have acquired 34-year old SG Jerry Stackhouse (from Dallas along with some cash) and a future 2nd round pick from the Raptors. The only player the Grizzlies gave up in this trade was 32-year old shooting guard Greg Buckner (to Dallas). In this trade the Mavericks acquired 31-year old SF Shawn Marion (from Toronto), 24-year old PF Kris Humphries (from Toronto) and Greg Buckner. The Toronto Raptors acquired 30-year old small forward Hedo Turkoglu (from the Magic), 25-year old SG/SF Antoine Wright (from Dallas), 31-year old SF Devean George (also from Dallas) and 22-year old center Nathan Jawai (from Toronto). The Magic acquired a $10 million dollar trade exception and some cold, hard cash in the deal.

It is believed that the Grizzlies will release Jerry Stackhouse next month. He played in 10 games (1 start) with the Mavericks last season and he averaged 16.2 minutes, 4.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Stackhouse has now played in 854 games (563 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 33.4 minutes, 18.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game.

Greg Buckner played in 63 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies last season and he averaged 13.9 minutes, 2.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. He, like Stackhouse, will probably be cut soon by the Mavericks.

This trade probably does little to help or hurt the Grizzlies.

The Memphis Grizzlies acquire forward Zach Randolph from the Clippers

The Grizzlies have acquired 28-year old power forward Zach Randolph from the Clippers for 29-year old Quentin Richardson who was just acquired from the Knicks last week. Randolph gives the Grizzlies a solid scoring option which they really need big time. Randolph played in 50 games (45 starts) for the Knicks and Clippers last season in which he averaged 35.1 minutes, 20.8 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Randolph has now played in 506 games (379 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 30 minutes per game. This was a outstanding move for the Grizzlies as Richardson was just going to come off of the bench for them and Randolph will likely be a impact player.
