Sacramento Kings 100, Memphis Grizzlies 98

The Grizzlies look like they had this game won when O.J. Mayo hit a shot with 1.5 seconds left in the game to put the Grizzlies up 98-97.  But, Tyreke Evans of the Kings then hit a miracle 3-pointer from around 55 feet out to win the game!  Zach Randolph had a game for the ages with 35 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.  Rudy Gay also had a solid game with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assists and 1 steal.  Marc Gasol filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot.  Tony Allen (10 points) and O.J. Mayo (10 points) also pitched in offensively last night.  The Grizzlies are now 14-18 on the year.

O.J. Mayo is still in the Dog House for the Memphis Grizzlies

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to step up by admin on Tuesday 28 December 2010 at 8:46 pm

23-year old shooting guard O.J. Mayo is still in Lionel Hollins’ Dog House.  Mayo has played in 13 games in December so far and he is averaging 12.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.  Mayo is shooting 40% from three point range so far this month.  Mayo has now played in 31 games (14 starts) so far this year and he is averaging 28.8 minutes, 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.  Mayo is better than anyone the Grizzlies have tried to replace him with so it’s just doesn’t make any sense to have him keep coming off of the bench.  Maybe the Grizzlies should try to deal Mayo if they dislike him so much because I’m sure they could get a pretty nice haul for him.

The Memphis Grizzlies need more from the rookies

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by admin on Thursday 23 December 2010 at 1:15 am

The Grizzlies need more out of the rookies.  The Grizzlies have benched O.J. Mayo and have inserted 19-year old Xavier Henry in his spot.  Henry has played in 27 games (15 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 17.4 minutes, 5.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  Henry won’t keep his starting job unless he starts shooting better soon.  Henry is hitting only 41.7% from the floor, 11.8% from three point range and 66% from the free throw line so far this year.  23-year old SG/PG Greivis Vasquez has played in 23 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 12.2 minutes, 3.4 points, 0.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  Like Henry, Vasquez is having issues with his shooting.  Vasquez is shooting only 36.3% from the floor, 31.4% from three point range and he has shot 67% from the free throw line.  Vasquez needs to start shooting better if he wants to earn himself more minutes going forward.

The Memphis Grizzlies are sending DeMarre Carroll to the D-League

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 15 December 2010 at 4:36 am

The Grizzlies are sending 24-year old power forward DeMarre Carroll to the D-League.  Carroll has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 5.0 minutes, 1.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.  He has now played in 79 games (1 start) in his first two years with the Grizzlies and he is averaging 10.9 minutes, 2.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  The Grizzlies hope that Carroll works on his shooting in the D-League as he is only hitting 39.5% from the floor and 63.6% of his free throws in his first two years in the NBA.  Despite this demotion, the Grizzlies still have high hopes for Carroll who they picked in the first round (#27 overall) of the 2009 NBA Draft.
