Rudy Gay is officially done for the year for the Memphis Grizzlies

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by admin on Thursday 24 March 2011 at 6:41 pm

24-year old SG/SF Rudy Gay is officially done for the year for the Memphis Grizzlies as he needs shoulder surgery.  Gay played in 54 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies this year and he averaged 39.9 minutes, 19.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.1 blocked shots per game this season.  Gay has now played in 372 games (335 starts) in his first five years with the Grizzlies and he is averaging 36.0 minutes, 17.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  The Grizzlies are getting along fine without Gay right now but they would be so much better with him.

That’s tough for Rudy. He had a great season and his team is close to clinching its first playoff bert. Now all of a sudden he cannot participate. That must a be a huge shot for the ego.

It’s a tough blow for Rudy, but at least the Grizzlies had Tony Allen to turn to. He has been really solid this year for the Grizzlies and I think he will do well going forward. I think Gay’s ego will be intact as he was a big contributor to the Grizzlies’ success when he was healthy this year.
