The Memphis Grizzlies had a so-so first half in 2011-12
The Grizzlies finished up the first half of the 2011-12 season with a 19-15 record which has them in 4th place in the Southwest Division. They are also currently #7 in the Western Conference as of right now. Here is a look at the players making the biggest impact for the Grizzlies so far this year in my opinion:
Team MVP: Marc Gasol: 27-year old center Marc Gasol has really stepped up so far this year. He has played in 34 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 38.1 minutes, 15.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steal and 2.2 blocked shots per game. The Grizzlies need him to keep up the great work in the second half of the year.
Biggest Surprise: Marreese Speights: 24-year old power forward Marreese Speights might be inconsistent but he has helped fill in for the injured Zach Randolph. Speights has played in 28 games (26 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 23.0 minutes, 8.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
Biggest Disappointment: Sam Young: 26-year old SG/SF Sam Young has been banged up a little bit this year and he hasn’t played too well. Young has played in 17 games (1 start) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 12.2 minutes, 4.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Young is only shooting a paltry 38.2% from the floor this year.
