The Memphis Grizzlies hire Dave Joerger to be their new head coach

The Memphis Grizzlies have hired 39-year old head coach Dave Joerger to be their new head coach.  Joerger will be getting his big shot to run the show in Memphis.  He was an assistant under the guy he is replacing, Lionel Hollins, from 2007-2013.  It will be interesting to see how Joerger handles the pressure of his new job as he disagreed quite a bit with Hollins over things.  Joerger is a defensive minded coach and he already likely has the respect of the players as he has already been working with them for quite a while.  The Grizzlies expect to keep winning, so Joerger will be under pressure right away in his first go around as an NBA head coach.

Lionel Hollins continues to do a good job for the Memphis Grizzlies

59-year old head coach Lionel Hollins has done a good job for the Grizzlies as he continues to get them to step up their game.  He led the Grizzlies to a 56-26 (68.3%) record during the regular season and a 8-7 (53.3%) record during the playoffs.  Hollins is now 214-201 (51.6%) in his seven years in charge during the regular season for the Grizzlies.  The Grizzlies are also 18-17 (51.4%) in the playoffs under Hollins.  The Grizzlies better do the smart thing and re-sign Hollins because the Nets and Clippers are going to be after him this summer.

UPDATE:  (6/11/2013) – The Grizzlies aren’t going to offer Lionel Hollins a contract for 2013-14.

Lionel Hollins is doing a great job for the Memphis Grizzlies once again

59-year old head coach Lionel Hollins is doing a great job for the Grizzlies so far this year.  The Grizzlies are 18-8 (69.2%) so far this year, which has them in second place in the Southwest Division, 2.5 games behind the Spurs.  Hollins is now 176-183 (49%) in his first seven years in charge for the Grizzlies.  Hollins seems to get the Grizzlies to play better every single year and that bodes well for the team in 2012-13.

Lionel Hollins continues to improve right along with his Memphis Grizzlies

59-year old head coach Lionel Hollins is the right guy at the right time in Memphis.  He led the Grizzlies to a 41-25 (62.1%) during the regular season despite not having Zach Randolph for much of it.  The Grizzlies were also 3-4 (42.9%) in the playoffs last year.  Hollins is now 158-175 (47.4%) in his first six years as the Grizzlies’ head coach during the regular season.  He is also 10-10 (50%) in the playoffs.  Hollins even was the head coach one of the years the Grizzlies were in Vancouver.  I look for Hollins to keep the Grizzlies rolling along in 2012-13.

58-year old head coach Lionel Hollins led the Grizzlies to a 41-25 (62.1%) record during the regular season in 2011-12.  But, he failed in the playoffs a bit this year as the Grizzlies only went 3-4 despite having home court advantage.  Hollins is now 158-175 (47.4%) in his first six years as the Grizzlies’ head coach during the regular season.  He is also 10-10 (50%) in the post-season with the Grizzlies.
