The Memphis Grizzlies waive Jordan Adams

The Memphis Grizzlies have waived 22-year old shooting guard Jordan Adams.  Adams played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies last year and he averaged 7.5 minutes, 3.5 points, 1.0 rebound, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.  He played in 32 games (0 starts) in his two years with the Grizzlies and he averaged 8.2 minutes, 3.2 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  Adams also played in 4 games (0 starts) in the playoffs for the Grizzlies and he averaged 2.5 minutes, 1.8 points and 0.3 rebounds per game.  Adams was a 1st round pick (#22 overall) in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Grizzlies, but he just couldn’t stay healthy.  He was going to miss a big chunk of this season due to injury too, so the Grizzlies cut bait with him.  If he can get healthy down the road, he could get another shot at the NBA with another team.

The Memphis Grizzlies sign JaKarr Sampson

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed 23-year old SF JaKarr Sampson.  Sampson played in 73 games (40 starts) for the 76ers and Nuggets last year in which he averaged 15.9 minutes, 5.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  Sampson has now played in 147 games (72 starts) in his first two years in the NBA and he is averaging 15.6 minutes, 5.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.  Sampson could be able to help the Grizzlies off the bench, so he was a nice guy to take a flier on.

The Memphis Grizzlies sign Matt Costello

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed undrafted power forward Matt Costello to a 2-year deal.  Costello played in 35 games for Michigan State last year and he averaged 22.9 minutes, 10.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game.  Costello played in 138 games in his four years at Michigan State in which he averaged 16.5 minutes, 6.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.1 blocked shots per game.  He is going to be a longshot to make the Grizzlies’ roster in 2016-17.  He was cut last week by the Atlanta Hawks.

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed undrafted small forward Troy Williams to a 1-year deal.  He is 6’7″, 206 pounds.  Williams played in 35 games for the Indiana Hoosiers last year and he averaged 26.2 minutes, 13.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  He played in 99 games in his three years with the Hoosiers and he averaged 25.1 minutes, 11.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  Williams will have a hard time making the Grizzlies’ roster.

The Memphis Grizzlies sign D.J. Stephens

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed 25-year old shooting guard D.J. Stephens to a 2-year deal.  Stephens played for two teams in the D-League last year and he played in 38 games (29 starts) in which he averaged 24.0 minutes, 10.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.3 blocked shots per game.  His only NBA experience came back in 2013-14 with the Milwaukee Bucks.  He played in 3 games (0 starts) in 2013-14 with the Bucks and he averaged 5.0 minutes, 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.  Stephens is going to have a hard time making the Grizzlies’ roster in 2016-17.

The Memphis Grizzlies sign Andrew Harrison

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed 21-year old PG/SG Andrew Harrison to a 3-year, $3 million dollar deal.  Harrison played for the Grizzlies’ D-League affiliate, the Iowa Energy last year (as a rookie).  He played in 46 games (45 starts) for the Energy last year and he averaged 35.3 minutes, 18.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game.  Harrison will have a hard time getting much P.T. for the Grizzlies in 2016-17.

The Memphis Grizzlies acquire Troy Daniels from the Hornets

The Memphis Grizzlies have worked a sign and trade deal with the Charlotte Hornets for 24-year old shooting guard Troy Daniels.  Daniels got a three year deal from the Grizzlies worth $10 million bucks over three years.  Daniels played in 43 games (0 starts) for the Hornets last year and he averaged 11.1 minutes, 5.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  He also played in 4 games (0 starts) in the playoffs last year and he averaged 4.5 minutes, 0.5 points and 0.5 rebounds per game.  Daniels has now played in 95 games (1 start) in his first three years in the NBA and he is averaging 10.0 minutes, 4.8 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.5 assists per game.  Daniels has also played in 8 games (0 starts) in the playoffs so far in his career and he is averaging 10.8 minutes, 4.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.  The Grizzlies didn’t give up anything in this deal, as the Hornets made it to create a trade exception.

The Memphis Grizzlies sign Wayne Selden

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed undrafted rookie shooting guard Wayne Selden.  Selden is 6’5″, 230 pounds.  He played in 38 games for Kansas last year and he averaged 29.8 minutes, 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.  He played in 109 games in his three years at Kansas and he averaged 29.5 minutes, 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.  Selden is going to be a longshot to make the Grizzlies’ roster for the 2016-17 season.

The Memphis Grizzlies sign James Ennis

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed 26-year old small forward James Ennis to a 2-year, $6 million dollar deal.  Ennis played in 10 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies last year and he averaged 4.0 minutes, 1.6 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  Ennis played in 22 games (5 starts) overall last year for the Heat, Grizzlies and Pelicans in which he averaged 15.0 minutes, 7.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.  Ennis has now played in 84 games (8 starts) in his first two years in the NBA and he is averaging 16.4 minutes, 5.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.  Ennis really opened some eyes at the end of last season with the Pelicans, which is what likely spurred the Grizzlies to bring him back.

The Memphis Grizzlies re-sign Mike Conley

The Memphis Grizzlies have re-signed 28-year old point guard Mike Conley to a 5-year, $153 million dollar deal.  Conley played in 56 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies last year and he averaged 31.4 minutes, 15.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game.  Conley has now played in 637 games (608 starts) in his first 9 years with the Grizzlies and he is averaging 32.5 minutes, 13.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game.  He has shot 44% from the floor, 37.3% from three point range and 80.6% from the free throw line so far in his NBA career.  Conley has also played in 50 games (all starts) in the playoffs for the Grizzlies so far in his career and he is averaging 37.4 minutes, 15.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game.  Conley is currently the Grizzlies’ all-time leader in games played (637), assists (3,578) and steals (963).  He is also #2 in three point shots made (736), #9 in defensive rebounds (1,551) and #2 in points scored (8,635) in Grizzlies’ history.  Mike Conley is a good basketball player, but the Grizzlies have just made him the highest paid player in the league!
