The Memphis Grizzlies lose James Ennis

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without 26-year old small forward James Ennis for at least the next two weeks due to a strained calf.  Ennis has played in 14 games (13 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 29.2 minutes, 9.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.  With Chandler Parsons also out due to injury, the Grizzlies are going to need some other guys to step up.  34-year old Tony Allen will likely move back into the starting lineup.  Allen has played in 7 games (5 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 22.4 minutes, 7.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.  39-year old Vince Carter will still get his fair share of P.T.  He has played in 14 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 27.6 minutes, 9.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  21-year old undrafted rookie Troy Williams could also see a bump in P.T.  He has played in 9 games (1 start) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 7.3 minutes, 2.3 points, 0.2 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.

Chandler Parsons is hurt again for the Memphis Grizzlies

28-year old small forward Chandler Parsons of the Memphis Grizzlies is out indefinitely due to a bone bruise in his left knee.  Parsons has played in 6 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 21.0 minutes, 7.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.  He is only shooting 39.1% from the floor and 23.8% from three point range so far this year.  26-year old James Ennis will move back into the starting lineup at small forward until Parsons is ready to return to action.  Ennis has played in 13 games (12 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 30.5 minutes, 9.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  The Grizzlies should be in solid hands until Parsons returns to action, as Ennis has played well for them so far this year.

The Memphis Grizzlies lose Jarell Martin for the rest of the playoffs

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without 21-year old rookie power forward Jarell Martin for the rest of the playoffs due to a left foot injury.  Martin played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies in the playoffs and he averaged 23.0 minutes, 4.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.  Martin played in 27 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies during the regular season and he averaged 14.1 minutes, 5.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  This will hurt the Grizzlies, as they need all the help that they can get against the Spurs.

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Chris Andersen indefinitely

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without 37-year old center Chris Andersen indefinitely due to a separated shoulder.  Andersen has played in 9 games (4 starts) for the Grizzlies since they acquired him from the Heat and he is averaging 16.9 minutes, 4.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.  Until Andersen can return to action, look for 31-year old center Ryan Hollins to play more.  Hollins has played in 20 games (3 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 12.1 minutes, 3.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Mike Conley for the next 3-4 weeks

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without 28-year old point guard Mike Conley for the next 3-4 weeks due to Achilles tendinitis.  He has played in 56 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies this year and he is averaging 31.4 minutes, 15.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game.  The loss of Conley combined with the loss of Mario Chalmers puts the Grizzlies in dire straits at point guard.  Newly signed 23-year old rookie Briante Weber made his Grizzlies’ and NBA debut in last night’s win and he played 40 minutes in which he scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists.  He also stole the ball once and blocked a shot.

The Memphis Grizzlies lose Marc Gasol indefintely

The Grizzlies will be without 28-year old center indefinitely due to an abdominal tear.  He has played in 68 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 35.2 minutes, 14.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.7 blocked shots per game.  Gasol has 15 double/doubles so far this year.  This is a huge blow for the Grizzlies, as Gasol could miss the rest of the regular season.  23-year old Ed Davis and 24-year old Darrell Arthur will be asked to play more to replace Gasol.  Davis has played in 24 games (4 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 14.5 minutes, 5.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game.  Arthur has played in 48 games (2 starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 17.1 minutes, 6.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  The Grizzlies hope to have Gasol back by the time the playoffs start.

UPDATE:  (3/28/2013) – Marc Gasol made an amazing return to action in last night’s loss.  He played 36 minutes last night in which he scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, stole the ball once and he blocked one shot.

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Quincy Pondexter for a while

The Grizzlies will be without 24-year old SG/SF Quincy Pondexter indefinitely due to a knee injury.  He has played in 27 games (1 start) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 23.1 minutes, 6.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.  He is shooting 41.8% from the floor, 42.3% from three point range and 75.8% from the free throw line so far this year.  Pondexter will be missed as he was playing well off the bench for the Grizzlies this year.

The Memphis Grizzlies lose power forward Darrell Arthur for a while

The Grizzlies have lost 24-year old power forward Darrell Arthur for the next 4-6 weeks due to a non-displaced leg fracture.  He was injured in a pickup basketball game.  This is a bad break for both the Grizzlies and Arthur, as he is starting to look injury prone after missing the entire 2011-12 season due to injury.  Arthur has played in 188 games (74 starts) in his first three years with the Grizzlies and he is averaging 18.8 minutes, 6.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  The Grizzlies hope that Arthur will be ready to help them off the bench when the 2012-13 season begins.

The Memphis Grizzlies lose Zach Randolph for a while

The Grizzlies will be without 30-year old, starting power forward Zach Randolph for the next 6-8 weeks due to a torn ligament in his knee.  Randolph has played in 4 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 28.3 minutes, 14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.3 steals per game.  He has now played in 160 games (159 starts) in his first three years with the Grizzlies and he is averaging 36.8 minutes, 20.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  Randolph is going to be very hard to replace for the Grizzlies.

The Memphis Grizzlies lose Darrell Arthur for the year

The Grizzlies have lost 23-year old power forward Darrell Arthur for the rest of the season due to a torn Achilles tendon.  Arthur played in 80 games (9 starts) for the Grizzlies last year and he averaged 20.1 minutes, 9.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  He has now played in 188 games (73 starts) in his first three years with the Grizzlies and he is averaging 18.8 minutes, 6.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  The Grizzlies are now in the market for another big man as they are suddenly a tad thin in the frontcourt.
